What a Salesforce implementation actually costs

A Salesforce implementation typically costs between $25,000 and $500,000 in partner fees, depending on scope, on top of Salesforce license fees. A single-team Sales Cloud rollout usually lands between $25,000 and $75,000 over 6 to 10 weeks. A multi-cloud build with CPQ, integrations, and data migration usually lands between $150,000 and $500,000 over 4 to 9 months. The three variables that move the number most are the number of integrations, the state of the data being migrated, and how many distinct sales processes have to coexist in one org.

    Typical cost ranges by scope

These are partner services fees only. Salesforce licenses are billed separately by Salesforce and are usually the larger long-term line item.

    ScopeTypical feeTimelineWhat it covers
Quick-start Sales Cloud$25k – $75k6 – 10 weeksOne team, standard objects, basic pipeline, light reporting, no complex integrations
    Standard implementation$75k – $150k3 – 4 monthsSales plus Service, custom objects, 2 – 4 integrations, data migration, enablement
Multi-cloud build$150k – $350k4 – 7 monthsSales, Service, and Revenue Cloud or FSC; complex data model; ERP or billing integration
Enterprise / regulated$350k – $500k+6 – 12 monthsMultiple business units, compliance requirements, legacy migration, custom development
Reimplementation of a failed org$60k – $200k8 – 20 weeksAudit, data remediation, process rebuild in place, no revenue-team downtime
Ranges reflect typical US market pricing for consulting-partner services in 2026. Skydog scopes each engagement to a fixed phase price before work starts.

    What actually drives the price

    • Integrations. Each system that has to read from or write to Salesforce adds cost. An ERP or billing integration is usually the single most expensive component after data migration.
    • Data quality. Migrating 400,000 records from a clean source is routine. Migrating 400,000 records with duplicates, free-text fields, and no owner history is where budgets slip.
    • Number of distinct sales processes. Two business units with genuinely different pipelines cost close to double one unit, because the data model has to serve both without forking.
    • CPQ and billing. Quote-to-cash roughly doubles a Sales Cloud scope. Product catalog, pricing rules, approvals, amendments, and revenue recognition are each real workstreams.
    • Change management. Training, documentation, and adoption support are often cut to save money and are the most common reason an otherwise sound build fails.

    License cost is separate

Salesforce list pricing for Sales Cloud runs from roughly $25 per user per month for Starter to $500 per user per month for Agentforce-enabled Einstein 1 editions, billed annually. Financial Services Cloud, Revenue Cloud, and Data Cloud are priced separately and can exceed the core Sales Cloud spend.

A useful planning heuristic: first-year implementation fees are commonly one to two times first-year license spend for a mid-market rollout. If a partner quote is far below that, confirm what has been descoped.

How to spend less without breaking the build

    • Phase it. Ship one team's pipeline in six weeks, then add. A phased build costs the same in total but starts returning value in month two instead of month nine.
    • Clean the data before migration, not during. Deduplication in the source system is cheaper than deduplication inside a migration script.
    • Cut custom development before you cut enablement. Configuration usually gets 90% of the way; unused custom code is pure future maintenance cost.
    • Do not buy licenses for the end state on day one. Buy for phase one and expand.
    • Insist on a fixed price per phase. Time-and-materials with an open scope is how a $90k project becomes a $260k project.

    How Skydog prices

Skydog Ops scopes every engagement into fixed-price phases with a named deliverable per phase. Each engagement is staffed with a Forward Deployed Engineer who works inside your org alongside your team, rather than an account team handing work down to offshore builders.

    FAQ

    Common questions

How much does a Salesforce implementation cost for a small business?

A small business implementing Sales Cloud for a single team should budget $25,000 to $75,000 in partner fees over 6 to 10 weeks, plus Salesforce license costs. That covers pipeline configuration, basic automation, reporting, data migration from a simple source, and training.

How long does a Salesforce implementation take?

A single-cloud, single-team rollout takes 6 to 10 weeks. A standard multi-team implementation takes 3 to 4 months. A multi-cloud build with CPQ, ERP integration, and legacy data migration takes 4 to 9 months. Timelines slip most often because of data quality and delayed stakeholder decisions, not build complexity.

Is Salesforce implementation cost included in the license?

No. Salesforce sells licenses. Implementation is delivered either by your internal team or by a consulting partner and is billed separately. Budget implementation fees at roughly one to two times first-year license spend for a mid-market rollout.

What is the hourly rate for a Salesforce consultant?

US-based Salesforce consulting rates typically run $150 to $275 per hour, with architects and CPQ specialists at the top of that range. Offshore rates run $40 to $90 per hour. Skydog prices by fixed-price phase rather than by hour so scope, not hours, determines cost.

Why do Salesforce implementations go over budget?

The three most common causes are dirty source data discovered mid-migration, integration requirements that surface after design is locked, and open-ended time-and-materials contracts with no fixed phase scope. All three are avoidable with a paid discovery phase before the build is priced.

Is it cheaper to fix an existing Salesforce org or start over?

Fixing in place is usually cheaper and less disruptive. A reimplementation that audits the existing org, remediates the data, and rebuilds the process without taking the revenue team offline typically runs $60,000 to $200,000, against $150,000 or more for a full rebuild in a new org.
